Board & Staff | Matt Russell

What are you currently excited about regarding ALMA and what project(s) are you a part of?

ALMA is committed to providing all kinds of musical experiences and 2026 will once again give the valley the opportunity to hear the fantastic Glen Miller Band along with another full summer of fun outdoor concerts.

Why is music important to you? Why do you think it is important for our community?

I grew up in a musical family (mother was church organist, sister and brother-in-law are  professional orchestra musicians, brother is singer and choir director).  I occasionally play piano at church and enjoy playing guitar with the Celtic (K)nots.  Music provides an enjoyable way to connect with others, sharing songs and tunes that inspire, uplift and occasionally get your toes tapping.

Where are you originally from and what brought you to the San Luis Valley?

Lynette and I moved to Alamosa from Hockessin, Delaware after I retired from DuPont where I worked for 29 years.  We have previously lived in IN (where we both went to college at Purdue) and in TX, CA, and NC.  We moved to Alamosa to be closer to our daughters’ families and our grand kids (3 in Alamosa and 2 in Salida).

How long have you been a part of ALMA and how did you get involved?

I joined ALMA in February of 2024 and I currently serve as the treasurer of the group.

Please share a story about your work/experience with ALMA

ALMA has provided me with the opportunity to work with an interesting cross-section of people who are all dedicated to providing a wide range of music events for the enjoyment of the community.  I’ve learned about the ongoing challenge of securing funding, have met the local merchants as we hang posters and have enjoyed outdoor concerts, even when it rains!
