Please share a story about your work/experience with ALMA?

I really loved chairing the Diversity, Equity, Inclusivity, and Accessibility committee the past two years. We had a really enriching time learning, leaning into discomfort, exploring, and digging deep into our hearts to find resonance with ALMA and a Land Acknowledgement. It felt meaningful to take a step on the journey towards articulating ALMA’s relationship with the Valley, the people, and music.

Why is music important to you? Why do you think it is important for our community?

Sound is the original vibration. Everything has a song. Music allows us to celebrate and know ourselves, and explore what it is to be human. Music is fun. Music unites. I can’t imagine our world existing without music.

Board Member, Vice President | 2023 – Present

Where are you originally from and what brought you to the San Luis Valley?

I’m originally from Thornton, CO and grew up climbing Cottonwoods and playing in ditches. I’ve always loved the SLV and being in the high mountain desert. I moved to the SLV in 2021, after having come in partnership with some land on the Flats in 2007, and started building an earthship. I’m still working on it but hope to finish soon! I am in love with the land, the mountains, the water, the plants, the people, and all the unseen little beings that make their home in the SLV.

How long have you been a part of ALMA and how did you get involved?

I’ve been on the Board for three years. It all started when I heard an interview with Matt and Will on the Valley Pod talking about Sundays @ Six. I had just been wishing the week before that I could learn more about where the live music is in the SLV. I heard about ALMA, and thought, “I need to be more involved and support this!”

What are you currently excited about regarding ALMA and what project(s) are you a part of?

I just became Vice President and try to support anywhere I can, and really honor all the contributions that every person on the Board makes, as well as Nancy’s incredible role in making things happen for ALMA. There are a lot of different skills, interests, and passions on the Board and it gives me a lot of joy to work with such dynamic people, each one doing what they can to make ALMA’s mission come alive in the SLV.
