ALMA is still providing free live music in Cole Park this month with its remaining Sundays at Six concert series. We’re still speechless from last Sunday’s Sihasin concert, so much so that we all called in sick to work on Monday. Just kidding, but we definitely thought about it. Want to know what else we’re thinking about? This upcoming Sunday’s SLV Big Band concert, that’s what. On August 17th at 6:00pm, the local favorite, SLV Big Band, will give us their powerhouse of sound that brings the golden age of jazz roaring back to life. Check them out at https://www.facebook.com/groups/slvbigband/.
The SLV Big Band isn’t just a really big jazz band—they’re the real deal. Dedicated to making the Rockies swing, this all-volunteer nonprofit ensemble is on a mission to bring big band jazz back in a big way. Hailing from all walks of life—think music directors, doctors, lawyers, and maybe even your neighbor—the band blends talent, passion, and a touch of brass to light up stages across Southern Colorado and Northern New Mexico. From toe-tapping classics to rich historical storytelling, The SLV Big Band is here to keep the rhythm alive and the valley buzzing—one syncopated rhythm at a time.
This is our second-to-last show, so make sure you don’t miss these next two. Also, make sure to grab your dinner and sweet treat from Tacos Martinez and Frosty Acres Rolled Ice Cream, whose food trucks will be onsite at each concert this summer. ALMA will once again be collecting food items for the Alamosa Food Pantry, so please bring your non-perishable items.
