Young Women of SHEL to Return to Alamosa with their Ferocious Mix of Folk, Rock and Celtic Styles.

SHEL

The young women of SHEL blew away the crowd with their mix of Celtic, folk, rock and even a little hip-hop, during a show at Adams State last March. Now they return to play the Alamosa Live Music Association’s (ALMA) Sundays@Six series of free concerts in Alamosa’s Cole Park, Sun., July 22, at 6pm.

SHEL is sophisticated and youthful, emotional and lighthearted, classic and eccentric. Their engaging live show is marked with a prodigy’s creativity and a veteran’s instinct for entertaining. Audiences delight with their unique songwriting style and fresh, new sound.

SHEL is Sarah, Hannah, Eva and Liza Holbrook, four classically trained musicians who happen to be sisters ranging in age from 18-23. The band has attracted the attention of such major media outlets as NPR’s “eTown Live,” and ABC.com. They have toured nationwide, playing fairs and festivals, including South by Southwest, International Folk Alliance, Lilith Fair, Four Corners Folk Festival and Cornerstone. They’ve even had one of their songs featured in Glade’s Scented Oil Candles national TV ad campaign.

Sarah is an immensely gifted violinist and vocalist who also shines with her bass chops. Hannah is an award-winning young composer and pianist who sings and helps arrange SHEL’s unique vocal harmonies. Eva is lead vocalist and one of the primary writers who also plays both acoustic and electric mandolin. Liza is equally proficient on the Djembe and Roland HandSonic drum. Her creative approach to percussion enables her to create the unique rhythmic patterns that help define SHEL’s music.

Kort McCumber and the High Road play Americana tunes on Sun., July 29 at 6pm as the next performers in the Sundays@Six series.
